In order to simplify things, I am including PSA 8 sales prices. However, there are mint 9 examples that have sold for much more. This list is to give you an idea of what players to look for.
Pay attention to the grades and prices in the summary underneath each card. Be sure to check back for updates and comment at the bottom which 1952 Topps baseball cards you think should be on this list.
Overview: 1952 Topps Baseball Set
- Contains 407 cards, size 2-5/8″ x 3-3/4″.
- Issued in six series.
- First series features NY area stars like Phil Rizzuto and Duke Snider, plus Warren Spahn and others.
- Subsequent series include Johnny Mize, Billy Martin, Yogi Berra, and Willie Mays.
- Series 6, starting with #311, features Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Bobby Thomson, and others.
- Rarities include Mickey Mantle (#311) to Eddie Mathews (#407), believed to be short-printed.
- Variations and errors: Series 1 cards with Black or Red Backs; errors in Joe Page and Johnny Sain cards.
- Notable absences: Ted Williams, Whitey Ford (military service), Stan Musial (Bowman contract).
- In 1986, a large cache of high-number cards found in Lowell, Massachusetts, including Mickey Mantle rookies, known as “The Find”.
